PRIVACY DETAILS
Your curiosity.
Your choice.
This page explains the current data practices of the Arin Vale website and related publishing tools. It is a practical privacy notice, not a claim of legal certification.
Creative tools and editorial work
AI tools may assist with idea exploration, research organization, drafts, editing, and visual concepts. Published writing is reviewed and selected under the Arin Vale editorial identity. The extent of assistance can vary by piece; this notice does not claim that all prose was written without AI.
Connected publishing tools
Some publishing and community-management features may process information made available by the platforms they connect to, such as usernames, post or comment text, identifiers, timestamps, links, review status, scheduling status, and whether an item has been published or replied to.
These tools may store limited technical state needed to provide their features, such as duplicate prevention, scheduling, review status, publishing history, and reply status. They do not ask for or store your social-platform password.
They may also retrieve public, read-only publishing data from external services in order to prepare or display content. Private repositories, private analytics, subscriber records, credentials, and other non-public account data are not intentionally retrieved for these features.
User-attributed posts and replies require an explicit final action by the authorized user. Connected platforms process account and platform data under their own privacy policies and terms. We do not sell social-platform user data or use it for cross-site advertising.
Cookies & optional Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is optional on this website. It does not load until you choose Accept analytics in the cookie banner. If you decline, this website does not load our Google Analytics integration.
If you accept, Google Analytics may use first-party analytics cookies and technical information to help us understand visits, returning visits, traffic sources, device and browser information, approximate geography, and engagement. We also measure article scroll milestones, focused reading-time thresholds, and clicks to our book and newsletter pages. These measurements are estimates and do not prove that a person read or understood a page.
We do not send newsletter email addresses or form contents through our custom analytics events. Google advertising signals and ad personalization are disabled.
You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer. If you withdraw consent after previously accepting, this site disables its Google Analytics integration, removes accessible _ga analytics cookies, and reloads the page. Withdrawing consent does not erase analytics data that was already collected before you changed your choice.
See Google's privacy policy for information about Google's own data practices. No session-recording or keystroke-replay service is installed on this website.
Hosting and infrastructure
This website is hosted using third-party infrastructure. Requests may be processed with technical information such as request timestamps, pages requested, network information, browser or device information, and security-related logs as needed to deliver, operate, monitor, and protect the service.
Hosting traffic statistics and infrastructure logs are separate from the optional Google Analytics cookies described above. Declining Google Analytics does not prevent the hosting platform from processing technical request information required to serve and secure the website.
Basic first-party audience measurement
The site keeps aggregate page-load counts by page and date and, for articles and stories, aggregate engagement milestones such as scroll depth, focused reading-time thresholds, visibility and clicks for newsletter or book invitations, privacy-safe internal navigation between public pages, requests to start newsletter confirmation, and completed double-opt-in confirmations. These measurements are used to understand which content is useful and to improve the journal.
This first-party measurement does not store your name, email address, a persistent visitor identifier, or a cross-site advertising profile. The stored records are aggregate counts, not a visitor-level browsing history. Internal-navigation records contain only the public source page, destination page, broad link placement, date, and aggregate count. They therefore cannot provide a reliable unique-human count and should be treated as approximate audience signals rather than exact readership.
Alongside historical page-load counts, the site may record a separate qualified pageview when a browser window has been visible and focused for approximately two seconds. Clearly identifiable automated user agents are filtered, although this cannot identify every bot. Owner browsers can optionally exclude their own future analytics events using a local browser-storage preference; it applies only to that browser and does not remove previously recorded counts.
Newsletter confirmation-request analytics include the public page path and form placement (for example, an inline form or popup), in aggregated counts. They do not include the email address. The owner dashboard also stores daily snapshots of the total size of the Brevo newsletter list; comparing snapshots provides net subscriber change, not the number of new subscribers. No email addresses are included in these snapshots.
Beyond the Known newsletter
Newsletter subscriptions are managed by a third-party email provider. When you enter your email address, the site sends it securely from a server-side function to that provider so it can send a confirmation message and manage your subscription.
We use a double opt-in process: entering an address is not enough by itself. You must click the confirmation link in the email from Arin Vale before the subscription is completed. Newsletter messages include an unsubscribe option.
Previously collected early-interest records
The retired early-interest form stored your email address, the time of signup, your consent record, whether you requested book updates, and the signup location, such as the book page. The form did not ask for your name, payment details, or account credentials.
The old register is closed to new signups. Addresses collected through that earlier form are not automatically transferred into the current newsletter system.
Where newsletter information lives
Older early-interest records are held in the website's managed database. New newsletter subscriptions are held by the current email provider. There is no public subscriber directory or public subscriber export endpoint. Authorized administrators with access to the relevant hosting or newsletter accounts can manage those records.
Removing an older early-interest request
The retired form provided a private removal link after signup. Opening that link and confirming removal deletes the signup associated with a valid link. The secret portion is kept in the URL fragment and is sent to the site only when you confirm removal.
If your email was already registered, a later submission does not replace its original removal link or preferences. This limitation applies only to the retired early-interest register, not to current newsletter subscriptions, which use the unsubscribe process in newsletter emails.
Abuse prevention
To limit automated signup attempts, the signup form includes anti-bot measures and the server validates submitted information and request origin. Hosting, email, and connected-platform providers may also apply their own security and rate-limiting controls.
External links
Sources and other sites linked from articles have their own privacy practices. Reading an article here does not send your newsletter email address to those external websites.
Questions or privacy requests
Questions about these practices can be sent to hello@arinvalewrites.com.
Future changes
If the site or its connected tools add new analytics, advertising, email, external APIs, or other data-handling features, this notice should be updated to describe those changes before or when they are activated.
